Elsa and Paul Käfer laid the foundation stone on May 16, 1930 with the opening of a "grocery store with wines, liqueurs and bottled beer" in Schwabinger Amalienstraße. Just three years later, they moved to larger premises on Prinzregentenstraße, corner of Schumannstraße. The head office is still located here today. In the 1960s, the sons Gerd and Helmut Käfer took over the established delicatessen with lunch and developed it into a quality and service-oriented gourmet meeting place.
