Kugler Obatzter P.G.I.

Obatzter, also known as Obatzda or Obazda, is a spicy Bavarian cheese preparation served as a snack. In Franconia, it is called Gerupfter or Angemachter. Obatzter became famous in the 1920s when the innkeeper Katharina Eisenreich served it to her guests at the inn in Freising. Since then, the following recipe has been the most common: ripe Camembert is processed into a cream with frothy butter, onions, a little salt and pepper, lots of paprika, caraway and wheat beer.
