Elsa and Paul Käfer laid the foundation stone on May 16, 1930 with the opening of a "colonial goods store with wines, liqueurs and bottled beer" in Schwabinger Amalienstraße. Three years later they moved to larger premises on Prinzregentenstraße, corner of Schumannstraße. This is still where the main house is located today. In the 1960s, the sons Gerd and Helmut Käfer took over the established delicatessen store with lunch service and developed it into a quality- and service-oriented gourmet meeting place.
