The long green one - Cucumis sativus
NOTE; In the period December - March, the cucumber may not be as firm as usual due to the persistent cold in Spain. Nevertheless, the product is full of water and has a beautiful colour and is therefore in the best possible condition for the colder temperatures at this time of year. The cucumber does not like the cold (below 2°) and it occasionally becomes a little flabby as a result.
The cucumber probably originated in Africa or India and was already known to the Greeks and Romans. In the Middle Ages, it conquered the whole of the rest of the continent northwards from southern Europe.
The snake cucumber differs from its conventional relatives primarily in its firmer skin and more intense flavour. The flesh is light green and the seeds are hardly noticeable. In use, the snake cucumber harmonises ideally with other crunchy vegetables and is a must-have in any fresh salad bowl.
