Viña Montes

The Viña Montes winery has been considered a role model for Chilean viticulture since the mid-1980s. The wines are produced from grape varieties that were imported from France in the 19th century. The name Montes is a tribute to Aurelio Montes Senior, the famous winemaker and co-founder of Discover Wines, later Viña Montes.

’Some people say I’m lucky, but I don’t think that’s it. In 90% of all cases in life, it’s a question of making the right decision’, says Aurelio Montes in an interview with Decanter (May 2008). The success of the top winemaker is primarily due to his meticulousness, his keen instinct for space and time and his patience to wait until everything is really perfect.

In 1988, Aurelio Montes founded his own winery together with Douglas Murray, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand in order to exploit the true potential of the country. Their vision: Every wine lover worldwide should enjoy Chilean top wines. Today, the clearly origin-related Montes wines are international greats.
