Finely dice onions and garlic. Melt the butter in a pot over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until translucent.

Add the flour and sauté for about 30 seconds, stirring constantly. Pour in the chicken broth, stir well, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and let the soup simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the cream, bring to a brief boil again, and simmer for another 5 minutes over low heat.

Finely purée the soup with an immersion blender and pass it through a fine sieve into a clean pot. Season with salt and pepper.
